Michel Hazanacicius on his wife's performance in 'The Artist':
"Someone told me when they saw the movie that as soon as you see Pepe, you know she's going to be a star."
On her taste in movies as a child:
My dad showed me a lot of American movies when I was little. We started with Westerns and musicals and then went on to Hitchcock, Capra, and Lubitsch. When I was 10, my friends would talk about how they loved Johnny Depp, and I was like, 'Yeah, and Robert Mitchum.'"
On preparing for her role as Peppy:
"[I watched films starring Marlene Dietrich and Joan Crawford] but I didn't want to imitate them. I inspired Peppy! So I never needed to look too far back."
